Italian Greyhound Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Submissive
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Come meet Birdie ( and her puppies!0 on Sunday 8/12 from 10-2 at the North Scottsdale Petsmart, located at 16527 N Scottsdale Rd--the southeast corner of Scottsdale Rd and Frank Lloyd Wright Blvd. Birdie is an adorable sweet girl--who although just a baby herself--was a mom to 5 puppies before her first birthday! Mom and puppies were surrendered to the shelter with advanced cases of demodex mange and have spent 2+ months in a foster home getting all healthy and ready for adoption. Birdie is still very puppy like--in that she loves to chew things, steal shoes--so she will need to be watched carefully. She is SO friendly and social, and ... (Read More)has the sweet, gentle IG personality to go along with her svelte figure and long legs. Birdie is spayed, current on vaccines, microchipped, heartworm and tick fever negative, and has been dewormed. (Less)

Animal ID: THEOTheo - Only $45!!!!! (male)

Italian Greyhound Mix    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Most Cats
Personality: Average Energy, Submissive
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

AVAILABLE THEO (Italian Greyhound/Chihuahua mix) Only $45 adoption!!! This sweetheart was picked up as an injured stray and was transferred from an emergency animal clinic to a shelter. While at the shelter, Theo ended up on the euthanasia list for showing fear at the shelter. Theo is all healed up now, and a loving little man that craves attention. He gives kisses to both people and other dogs. Theo also responds really well to praise, such as hand clapping, saying 'good boy', and talking to him in a baby voice. So far Theo knows: Come, No, Outside, Go Potty, Is that it?, Good Boy, Bad Boy. We are working on others. PLEASE NOTE: All ... (Read More)of the pets at Safe Haven receive basic training when they come here. All adopters will be given a list of words that your new pet knows at the time of adoption. What each pet learns depends on how much time I have had to work with them, & if that pet has any additional issues that need to be focused on first. The pets here are always improving. Age/Birthday: 6 yrs (life expectancy is up to 20 yrs) Weight at last Vet visit: 11 lbs. He was a little thin when he came in and might be up to 12 lbs, but no more than that. A little weight on a small dog makes a big difference, He is currently at the perfect weight for his size. Cats: Great with cats, doesn't pay much attention to them. Small Dogs: Fantastic with other small dogs. Playful and likes to run around and wrestle with them. Sometimes barks if he gets overly excited. I would love to see him go to a home with another small friendly playful dog, as he would just LOVE a playmate! He also likes to cuddle with the other dogs. Large Dogs: He is good with big dogs too, but more interested in the ones his size. Kids: Unknown, but he is so sweet and gentle, I'm sure he'd be great with kids. I'd like to see him go to a home with older kids though since he's small and has long fragile legs. Little kids can be unknowingly to rough w/dogs and I wouldn't want the kids to hurt him. Men: unknown Women: affectionate, loving, social Strangers: Quiet and reserved. Has occasional barked at them when overly excited. Will come up with treats, and warms up quickly. Food: I feed all the dogs on a rotational diet. Which means they get a different brand of high quality food each month. I do this because I do not think that one brand can provide all the nutrients that they need. Just like one food can't provide us with all that we need...Plus, who wants to eat the same thing every day? All dogs are fed breakfast (6 am) & dinner (4 pm), & are trained to eat out of their own bowl. Theo is a great eater. He has eaten everything I have given him. He has been on BilJac dry food (both the chicken and whitefish favor). He gets 1/2 cup for breakfast and again for dinner for a total of 1 cup of dry food a day. Plus for dinner, I add 1 tsp. organic olive oil, 1 tsp. Missing Link food supplement for skin and coat, some 'The Honest Kitchen' mix, and some type of fruit or veggie, or extra treat. He has had and likes organic plain yogurt, apples, green beans, wild caught mackerel, and pureed pumpkin (not the pie filling. That is bad for them. It has to be the pure pureed pumpkin) Crate Trained: Yes, he is in a plastic carrier that is 18 1/2' W x 26' L x 16' H. He is only crated at night, or when I leave for long periods. House Trained: Yes, I originally started by letting him outside on a schedule. Once he learned to hold it, he goes quickly when let outside, (which is always nice...) He now uses the doggy door and I have not seen him have an accident in a long time. Leash Trained: Due to health issues, I have not been able to take him for a walk. But I have put him in a harness and walked him around the house and he followed me around and did great. If you can exercise him early in the morning before 6 am is ideal, and dogs should not be walked outside in the summer (in AZ) after that. I would like to see him go to a home that will walk him for at least 20-30 minutes a day. Car: Unknown Other issues: Theo was very hand shy when he first came here. He no longer cowers when I go to pet him, but he had a habit of backing up a couple feet, just out of reach, when I would go to pick him up. I've worked with him on this, and he no longer does it to me when I go to pick him up, but he will more than likely do it with a new person until he learns to trust you. Adoption fee is only $45 & includes: - Spay/Neuter surgery - Up to date on Vaccinations - Harness * - Collar - Microchip - Other surprise goodies from Safe Haven - Free office visit to Vet - 50% off any Optimum Wellness Plan - 30 days of free Pet Insurance - Other coupons from Partners - Available Paperwork: Spay/Neuter records, Vaccination records, Vet records, Micro records, etc... - Continued Support: Safe Haven will be there for the lifetime of your new adopted pet. If you ever have questions or concerns, we will always be there to help. Our goal is for you & your pet (Less)

Italian Greyhound Mix    Age: Young Puppy

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Submissive
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Come meet Birdie's puppies Saturday 8/12 at Petsmart in North Scottsdale 16527 N Scottsdale Rd, on the SE corner of Scottsdale Rd and Frank Lloyd Blvd from 10-2. These adorable pups were rescued from the county shelter with their mom, Birdie, who appears to be a small IG/Chi mix. Mom is 8lbs and with the exception of Falcon (one of the puppies not shown) we believe all will be about her size when full grown. There are 4 boys and 1 girl (the girl is the smallest) and all have the sweet and gentle IG personalities. They are quiet, snuggly, and love people and other animals. Their brother Falcon looks the most IG, and he is the ... (Read More)biggest--already at 10lbs! (double their size) We estimate him to be about 15lbs full grown and will post him separately. When turned in, the puppies and mom had horrible cases of demodex mange--but after spending almost 2 months in foster care they are ready for their forever homes! The pups are neutered/spayed, have had 3 puppy vaccines, are microchipped and dewormed. (Less)

Snow Ball is a shy, but sweet 1 year old male Italian Greyhound and Chihuahua mix. His previous owners surrendered him due to not having the time to properly train him. Once Snow Ball was in a foster home environment, it is believed that Snow Ball is deaf and he is now learning hand signals and learning new things daily. Snow Ball loves to cuddle and sleep in bed. Snow ball is nervous at first but very curious! If you are patient and slow with him he will warm right up to you. Underneath that nervousness is a goofy boy that loves toys and affection. He is good with dogs, cats and kittens. Snow Ball loves to play with toys, play with both ... (Read More)cats and dogs, snuggle, walk, car rides and did I mention snuggle??? PIease Read Before Adopting an Italian Greyhound in Arizona
Italian Greyhound Dogs can make good pets in Arizona if they match your IifestyIe. The Italian Greyhound is a gentle, elegant, somewhat nervous and high strung dog. The Italian Greyhound makes a good companion for low-key families without rambunctious children. Italian Greyhounds get along well with other pets, especially other Italian Greyhounds, but do not do well with larger dogs. Italian Greyhounds need gentle but firm obedience training.
